Your butterflies will arrive in a box, all in individual envelopes (regardless of your chosen method for release) for safety. It will also have an ice pack included, used to keep the butterflies safe and dormant. When your shipment arrives, we recommend that you change the ice pack in order to keep the butterflies in their dormant state until your event. Do not put the butterflies in the refrigerator or freezer.

How Does a Butterfly Release Work?

On the day of your event, you should give your butterflies at least 30 to 60 minutes to warm up. For a mass release, you should move your butterflies from their envelopes into their box before they wake up, or else they might fly free in your home. When you’re ready to open your box, simply give it a light shake to motivate the butterflies and lift the lid to set them free. If you have chosen an individual release, the butterflies will arrive in their envelopes ready to go. Hand the envelopes to your guests as they arrive with a friendly reminder that there’s a live creature inside. Just give a signal, and all of your guests can open their envelopes and let their butterflies out.
