- Live Monarch Butterflies on the other hand cannot be shipped west of the Continental Divide. The Western half of the United States is not an indigenous area to Monarch butterflies. If you live to the left of the red line in the image, we can only ship live Painted Lady butterflies for release to you. In the case that you order live monarch butterflies to be shipped and you live in this region of the U.S. , we will substitute Painted Lady Butterflies to customers in those areas instead. Shipping live Monarch butterflies for release is regulated by the USDA to states that the Monarch butterflies are indigenous to. A full State listing is available here. We also may not ship to the U.S.islands including Hawaii, Guam and Puerto Rico.
